Meet the Student Leadership Team 2024-25
Zara, Head Girl
My name is Zara and I’m so excited for the year ahead, serving as your Head Girl. I am thoroughly enjoying my time in Sixth Form so far, studying Maths, Biology and English Language. Outside of school, I spend most of my spare time at my dance studio, with my favourite style being tap. I also love spending time outside in the sun and reading my current favourite book, A Man Called Ove. My ultimate goal in this position is to build upon the already fantastic opportunities that students can engage in here at Upton, with a particular focus on charitable events that support our wider community. By harnessing the creative talents of our pupils, we can enhance the lives of vulnerable groups in our local area and provide a welcome distraction to any difficulties they may be facing. Through these events, I hope that we can strengthen the interpersonal relationships between year groups and develop a stronger sense of unity across our school.
At Upton, the integrity of our school community is clearly demonstrated when we all join together through singing hymns. My favourite hymn that we sing is All Our Welcome as I believe the lyrics truly encapsulate the ethos of our school and our values. My favourite quote is ‘Collect moments, not things’ by Karen Salmansohn as it reflects the importance of taking up opportunities and experiences rather than dwelling on material possessions.
Maddie, Deputy Head Girl
Hi, my name is Maddie! I study biology, geography and sociology at A-Level. In my spare time, I play piano, go on walks and attend a performing arts group. I love listening to music and my favourite book to read at the moment is ‘The Twyford Code’. My favourite school hymn is definitely the Magnificat as I enjoy singing it with the school body at mass. Also, my favourite quote that inspires me is “Love is not a weakness. It’s the bravest act of our lives”. It encourages me to show those who I care for that I appreciate and respect them. I want to prioritise environmental aspects of Upton, such as running eco club and bringing awareness to environmental issues such as climate change and climate Action. I also wish to involve myself, alongside others on this team, in supporting students struggling with workload and anxiety surrounding school.
Eve, Deputy Head Girl
My goal as deputy: my main goal is to ensure a safe school environment for all whilst advocating for mental health awareness and proving support for those in need. to further aid this I am looking forward to raising money and working alongside a local charity who issues support and advice for a broad spectrum of potential personal difficulties. Overall, my aim to is teach how we can all achieve the unthinkable! I am currently re reading one of my favourite books 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott, my favourite hymn is -All our welcome and my go to quote is "Love yourself first and everything else falls into line". - Lucille Ball.
Olivia, Deputy Head Girl
Hi! I am currently studying A-Levels in History, Drama & English Literature. Outside of school I love to play cricket and perform on stage and watch musicals with my friends and walk my dog Naomi!
I want to support students with their mental health and well-being by providing them with peer support and resources. By doing this I also want to make sure that nobody feels alone and that everyone feels that they have a space and someone to turn to. My main goal is to work with others in the team to create a well-being space in school which will be accessible for everyone. I also aim to use our Student Leadership Instagram account to communicate to all year groups and to get their opinions and ideas so that everyone feels that they have a voice.
My favourite book is Alice in Wonderland and my favourite hymn is the Magnificat.
My favourite quote is: "It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then." by Lewis Carroll and is from Alice in Wonderland.
Libby, Deputy Head Girl
I am currently studying A-Levels in Law, Psychology & Drama. I love to spend time attending my drama group. I’m currently involved in Shrek as the role of Pinnochio. I also love reading in my spare time! I'm hoping to support our student's mental health, especially the idea that 'you're worth more than a grade!' Whilst doing this I want to encourage students to aim for their best potential whilst enabling a healthy work-life balance. On top of this, I want to help year 11s when deciding what to study at sixth form as it can be a scary change. I also hope to build a quiet space in school with the help of the team as a space of reflection for when life gets a little too much and you need to take a breather. I am currently reading ‘If he had been with me’ by Laura Nowlin, my favourite Hymn is ‘How Great Thou Art’ and my go to quote is 'Don't take yourself too seriously' - The BFG (Roald Dahl)
Eleanor, Deputy Head Girl
Hey, I’m Eleanor and I am embracing sixth form at Upton whilst currently studying A-Levels in Maths, Chemistry & PE.
I am thrilled to be Deputy Head Girl and my targets throughout this year include aiming to empower our students to challenge themselves to break the barriers that females face and prove we're capable of achieving anything we aspire to do. I will also promote self-care activities, supportive methods and peer support groups in order to maintain a healthy mental wellbeing. As a team we further plan to work together to create a cosy safe space for students when they may need support.
When I’m not studying, in my free time I enjoy listening to music and play a variety of sports, including football for my local team. Additionally, I enjoy reading and my favourite book is Little Women as it focuses on family love and the journey of womanhood. At Upton we engage in lots of singing and a favourite hymn of mine is 'Sing it in the Valleys.' Finally, a quote that resonates well with me is “You’ll never do a whole lot until you’re brave enough to try" by Dolly Parton. This reiterates the importance of taking a step out of your comfort zone in order to excel in the future!
