2. Catholic Life and Mission

The choice to have your child educated in a faith school is an extremely important one and tells you that you wish the values of the Catholic Church to play a major part in their life.  Upton Hall FCJ is a Catholic Grammar School, rooted in the teachings of Christ, rituals and ethos of the Church. We are also an FCJ school (a school within the religious order, the Faithful Companions of Jesus). Whilst being truly Catholic, we welcome and nurture pupils of all faiths and backgrounds. The Governors and staff at Upton Hall are committed to building and strengthening the Catholic ethos of the school, developing every individual and allow them to grown in God’s spirit.

Our Catholic ethos seeks to instil in pupils a love of God and neighbour. We believe our motto ‘Age Quod Agis’ (whatever you do, do it well) can only be achieved when Jesus is at the centre of our lives. At Upton Hall we strive to ensure that the values of respect, understanding and affection imbue all of the work which we undertake as a community. All pupils participate in the social justice and charity work of the school. All students attend Mass throughout their time at Upton Hall and take part in sacraments and pray together daily. We try to live as Jesus would want us by showing the personal qualities of caring, sharing, love, trust, honesty and mutual respect. We strive to make our school community one in which everyone is valued and seen in the true image and likeness of Christ. We aim to be a welcoming school and part of the wider community.

At Upton Hall, we have a distinct FCJ Charism which is explored further here:

During 2020 and 2023, our students and staff had the opportunity to watch a production by the RISE theatre company on the life and values of our foundress, Marie Madeleine.

Our Diocesan inspection in 2018 evaluated the Catholic Life of the school, the provision and quality of collective worship, as well as all areas of RE. This inspection process helps ensure that all Catholic schools continue to develop in order to fulfil their mission of making Christ know to all. The judgements made on both the Catholic life of the school and Collective Worship were outstanding.
