The Department
"Impossible n’est pas français” a famous quote from Napoleon which would translate as: There is no such word in French for ‘impossible’ (you can do and achieve anything). We aim for our students to become confident speakers of French, to have fun, to work cooperatively with other members of the class and to develop a fascination to learn about other languages and cultures.

Madame S Laloyer
I’m passionate about languages, etymology (the study of the origin of words) and syntax (the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language). I particularly enjoy teaching grammar and French culture in KS3 and KS4. I also love history and therefore have a keen interest in teaching French under German occupation at KS5.
Mrs E Davies from September 2022
I have always loved languages and, in addition to studying French, Spanish and Japanese, I love picking up words wherever I go and learning how different languages are linked and what makes them unique. I taught English in Japan and worked in the UK in Human Resources for an international company before becoming a teacher and I really love my job and appreciate how lucky I am to be able to share my love for French with the students at Upton.
