7. RE Curriculum

What is RE like at Upton Hall?

  • the School’s curriculum is designed so that students:
  • experience the wonder and awe of God’s presence in all things;
  • achieve excellence in a balanced and broadly based curriculum;
  • find joy in learning;
  • gain knowledge and experiences which will be the foundation and inspiration for future learning;
  • are well-prepared for adult life and experiences including home life, parenthood, enterprise, employment and other work;
  • discover their vocation through an appreciation of their talents and gifts;
  • are ready to fulfil the responsibilities of citizenship in local, national and global contexts;
  • have opportunities for spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development.

It is our view that high quality RE plays an essential part in achieving this, and it is accordingly taught in KS3, 4 and 5. All students study RE GCSE. Our RE curriculum is based on the Religious Education Directory and you can find out more about it by following the link:

What makes a good student of RE?

  • A recognition of the importance of the questions that religious education poses;
  • A deep commitment to the enquiries it generates;
  • A passion for the debates it engenders.

In RE we check your learning regularly. Some of our assessments will check how well you are recalling knowledge such as key words. Other assessments check how well you are able to ‘discern’ – can you think critically about different truth claims and reach a well-judged conclusion.

At GCSE this develops further and we will use the exam board’s assessment targets to help us.

You can find out more about our assessment in RE and how we use it to help pupils improve by following this link:
