By September, you will be required to have read 'Othello' by William Shakespeare, and 'The Great Gatsby' by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Please see the attached reading list for correct editions. Do not buy a different edition, as some of the texts are in translation and the vocabulary will be different to the text that will be taught in the classroom.

By September, you will be expected to have read one book for pleasure from the reading list for the N.E.A. [non-examined coursework assessment]. This can be any book from the set list or the ones that students have written their coursework on in the past. Please see Mrs Seed before the end of term, if you would like to read something else, as not all texts are permitted for use as coursework.

After reading Othello, please use the 'Othello' booklet to complete the Act One study questions. Complete this work on file paper or a word document and have this printed out ready for your first lesson with Mrs Seed.

After listening to the 'Shakespeare's Sonnet' and 'The Metaphysical Poet' podcast, please make notes on the named poets, their biographical. social and historical contexts and the poems discussed. Copy and paste a copy of each poem into the document. Do this in a word document and print it off for your first lesson with Mrs Stones. To get ahead, on the poetry anthology, 'AQA Anthology: love poetry through the ages' [we study the pre-1900 poems only], you might also choose to complete the activities in the Hodder Education workbook on the poem 'Who So List to Hount I Knowe Where is an Hynde’, by Sir Thomas Wyatt'.
