We work with local primary schools to help raise attainment and to broaden the learning experience of primary school pupils.
Pupils from Our Lady of Pity, Sacred Heart, St Joseph’s and Ladymount primary schools have carried out practical investigations using equipment and data logging devices.

Pupils learned about ‘ecosystems’ using wood lice. Here are some of the comments that pupils and teachers made:
‘I learned what ‘ecosystem’ means’. I learnt what adaptation means. I learnt that woodlice like dark and damp places.’
‘I learnt in Physics how to measure newton metres in water and in air. ‘
‘I enjoyed the most when we played thecontrol game on the board. I recon it was really fun at Upton School.’
Over the last two years, we have run Easter workshops for gifted primary school pupils in Mathematics and Art. Pupils, from Ladymount, Our Lady of Pity and St Paul’s schools undertook research into Islamic art and designed their own patterns using Fibbinachi sequencing (eg 1,2,3,5,8, 13….), and then plotting these sequences onto graphs.

They then mirrored and rotated these images creating a range of delightful patters. They then drew these designs on the computer using a programme called ‘3D Design’. The pupils were then able to use the electronic laser cutter to produce drink coasters from the computerised designs. This project, although Maths based, covered the curriculum areas of Religious education, Art, History, Design and Technology and ICT.
