Description of Teaching and Learning

A variety of teaching methodologies are used to meet individual learning styles. Lectures, discussions, practical sessions, research work and presentations are all evident throughout the course. There are regular opportunities for checking progress. Students are given the opportunity to enter Physics Competitions such as the Physics Olympics and attend external lectures such as the IOP Christmas Lecture at Liverpool University. A trip to the particle physics research centre CERN in Geneva is planned for December 2008.

Links to Future Careers

Physics is a most versatile subject and can lead to careers in a wide variety of areas, including Medicine, Veterinary Science, Engineering (all branches), Education, Atomic Energy, Astronomy, Aerospace, Dentistry, Ophthalmic Opticians, Radiography, etc.

Higher Education Successes of Former Students

Former students have gone on to study for University degrees in Physics, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Podiatry and Engineering. Current Upper Sixth Form students are applying for Mathematics at Warwick and Physics at Cambridge.
