Introduction: Aims of the specification


The course is designed to deepen students’ understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film. They will develop critical analysis skills as well as developing their creative and practical skills.

 

Assessment Framework:


AS Units:

Unit 1: Exploring Film Form: This coursework unit will require you to write a short analysis of a film extract and produce a creative project.

Unit 2: British and American Film: This module is divided into 3 units. Both British and American films will be analysed, with a specific focus on audience reception.

 

A2 Units:

Unit 3: Film Research and Creative Projects: This coursework unit will involve a research project and a linked practical piece.

Unit 4: Varieties of Film Experience: A range of films will be studied analysing them in the light of contextual factors.

 

Description of Teaching and Learning:


Film Studies is taught through interactive methods, including discussion, presentations and research projects. Pupils will be expected to have an interest in film and be prepared to build upon their knowledge.

 

Independent learning is essential; pupils will be expected to visit the cinema, read and use the internet on a regular basis. Enrichment will be provided through cinema trips, visiting teachers and practical film-editing projects.
