A-LEVEL ENGLISH LITERATURE - AQA (SPEC A)



Introduction: Aims of the specification


The course aims to allow students to explore a range of literary texts and a range of genres. Independent reading and content are key elements of the new course.

 

Assessment Framework


At both AS and A2 Level there are two units of study. Wider reading and study of content will be important

 

AS Level

Unit 1: There are three proposed areas of study: World War One Literature, Victorian Literature or Identity in Modern Literature. Wider reading will be an essential component of the module.

Unit 2: This unit is examined as coursework and will include the study of one prose text and one drama text. Candidates produce a folder containing two pieces of writing.

 

A2 Level

Unit 3: Pupils will study various texts on the theme of ‘Love Through the Ages’. Wider reading will be an essential component of the module.

Unit 4: This unit is examined as coursework and will include the study of three texts with a shared theme, one of which will be a Shakespeare play.

 

Description of Teaching and Learning


Teaching at A Level is designed to be interactive and will encourage independent learning. Pupils will be expected to complete preparatory work for each lesson. Lessons will be taught through discussion and group work. Pupils will also be expected to prepare presentations and lead lessons themselves. Enrichment is provided through lectures, visiting teachers and theatre trips.
