Four of our Key Stage 3 pupils proved themselves to be “Streets Ahead” having been successful in an RAC competition of the same name. Thousands of entries were received by the organisers and they were among 20 winners nationally in a competition to design a poster aimed at other young people across the UK promoting an alternative, sustainable travel option to the car for the school run. The designs were to encourage other young people to travel to school by walking, cycling, public transport or car sharing.
Kathryn Black (9U) who was the highest scoring entrant received a mountain bike and helmet together with a laptop for the school.
Three Runners up from Upton were Sophie O’Donnell (7S), Tess Bain (7S) and Hannah Cross (8J) who all won mountain bikes and helmets.
All winners demonstrated an understanding of road safety and sustainability issues, an original creative execution and an ability to communicate with other students. These were the three criteria for success.
This is the second year running that pupils from Upton have been successful in this competition.
Last year’s winner, now in Year 9 is pictured below – the proud owner of a mountain bike and helmet.
We look forward to building on these achievements next year.
