At Upton Hall School we have been raising money to support the work of the FCJ sisters in the Philippines. We launched the appeal in September with an assembly to raise awareness of the fantastic work the FCJs are undertaking to help the people of the Philippines rebuild their lives following the floods in the autumn.
The photograph shows Sr Catherine FCJ accepting the cheque on behalf of the FCJ sisters from Miss Margaret Burns and two 6th Form members of the Charities Committee, Sarah Bedford and Grace Scothern.
The main fundraising event took place on the school Feast Day on 8 December. Every form group in the school was invited to run a form auction with 6th form students acting as organisers and auctioneers. Pupils brought in clothes, CDs, games and other items which were then auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The auctions were great fun and raised over £2,000. Other donations came from a non-uniform morning and from collections held at the end of our Christmas Carol Concerts at Sacred Heart Church.

Thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of both staff and pupils we were able to send a cheque to the sisters (pictured above) working in the Philippines for £3,000.
