Careers Fair



Our biannual Careers Fair was held on the evening of 16 March 2010, from 7pm – 9pm. This was an excellent opportunity for all girls and parents fromYear 9 – Year 12 to talk to employers, Higher Education representatives and members of the police and armed forces.
We had representation from the following:



     


Careers Advice and Guidance



Nicki Leighton, an experienced and knowledgeable Connexions Personal Adviser, is on site for part of the week. Whilst concentrating on Year 11 and Sixth Form interviews, she is happy to help any student with careers-based enquiries.

Mrs Douglas is available in school every day and can help any pupils with careers and work experience queries. Please see Mrs Douglas if you require an appointment with either her or Nicki Leighton.



Careers Resources



Careers resources are currently on display in the Library. Some of them can be booked out and all students are encouraged to browse through these informative publications. The following resources are installed on the school network to assist with career planning:

Work Related Learning Year 8



Year 8 pupils have been visited by some very interesting speakers before the half term break. Speakers have included:

• Mr Warrington, a representative from Guide Dogs for the Blind, who visited with his guide dog in training, Eric.




• Mr & Mrs Bray accompanied by their golden retriever Pippa, who talked about their work with Hearing Dogs for the Deaf

• Sr Catherine who led a practical session on sugarcraft.

• Mrs Espie, from St Johns Ambulance who gave a session on basic first aid

• CASM drugs service

• Linda Sillitoe and colleagues from Merseyside Police

Many thanks to all the speakers who gave a fascinating insight into their work.
